Ariana Grande and Cher are headed back to 30 Rock. The Wicked: For Good star and the Goddess of Pop are joining forces for the Dec. 20 episode of NBC’s Saturday Night Live, which will see Grande host and Cher perform as the evening’s musical guest.
SNL announced its festive December lineup on Nov. 17. In an Instagram post displaying the show’s signature color-coded cards on a corkboard, Grande and Cher were listed as host and performer for the Christmas-themed special, which is also the final episode of the year.
The last three episodes of 2025 kick off on Dec. 6, when Melissa McCarthy returns for her sixth time as host but her first time since 2017, and Dijon makes his debut as musical guest. The Dec. 13 episode will see Josh O’Connor make his hosting debut, and Lily Allen will return for her second time as musical guest.
This is neither Grande’s nor Cher’s first appearance on the acclaimed late-night television show. Grande has appeared on SNL several times: She made her SNL debut in 2014 as a musical guest, pulled double duty as both host and musical guest in 2016, returned as a musical guest in March 2024, and then as host in October 2024. Cher, meanwhile, has only been an SNL musical guest once before, in 1987, though she did perform as part of the show’s 50th-anniversary celebration in February.
Beloved for her stellar celebrity impersonations, during her most recent appearance on Saturday Night Live in October 2024, Grande did her best impressions of White Lotus star Jennifer Coolidge and pop powerhouse Celine Dion. The viral “Domingo: Bridesmaid Speech,” during which Grande intentionally sang off-key, was also the most-viewed SNL sketch of the 2024-25 season.
Their upcoming Saturday Night Live appearances aside, Grande and Cher appear to be booked and busy. Grande is currently trotting across the globe to promote her upcoming blockbuster, Wicked: For Good, in theaters Nov. 21. And Cher, who recently opened up about her relationship with boyfriend Alexander “AE” Edwards attended the Bambi Awards in Munich on Nov. 16, where she received the Legend Award.
